Experience
Front Desk Associate — Planet Fitness
February 2020 – May 2023
Working at Planet Fitness gave me early exposure to a health-focused environment and helped me develop essential communication and customer service skills. As a front desk associate, I greeted gym members, handled account inquiries, and frequently helped clients resolve billing issues. I was also responsible for promoting upgraded memberships and this required persuasive communication and related it back to the individuals’ fitness goals. This experience allowed me to connect with people who were already invested in their health and wellness, which deepened my interest in sports nutrition and how dietetics can support performance and recovery. It also taught me how to create a welcoming, organized environment which will be an important part of making clients feel supported in any health-related setting.
Technology Sales Associate– T-mobile
August 2023- Present
Working at T-mobile has allowed me to sharpen my communication and sales skills in a high demand, customer-focused environment. As a sales associate, I consistently exceed monthly goals by using effective communication and strong interpersonal skills. Most importantly, I have learned how to connect with all kinds of people, build rapport, identify needs and problem-solve. My work here has also strengthened my ability to adapt my communication style depending on the client, something especially useful when working with diverse populations. Although working at T-mobile may not be directly associated with dietetics, this employment has taught me incredibly valuable skills that I will need for my future career in dietetics, such as communication, building rapport, and adaptability. These skills are transferable for whichever path I choose to take in the field of dietetics.
Student Volunteer — Project New Village: Mobile Farmers Market
February – May 2024
Through my volunteer work with Project New Village, I contributed to food justice and health education efforts in underserved communities. I assisted community members in completing surveys, often translating them into Spanish, and helped spread awareness about the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables. This experience deepened my commitment to promoting nutrition accessibility and health equity. I learned how to effectively communicate scientific information in a way that is culturally appropriate and easy to understand, which is a vital skill in community nutrition settings. Being able to engage with people directly in both English and Spanish helped me bridge language gaps and connect with the community on a meaningful level.
